Is This Trip For You?

Fitness & Experience

### Fitness & Experience The Mount Kilimanjaro Machame Route is a physically demanding, high-altitude trek requiring a good level of cardiovascular fitness, muscular endurance and mental resilience. Participants should be comfortable walking for **5–8 hours per day over consecutive days**, carrying a daypack across varied and sometimes steep, rocky terrain. Summit day is particularly challenging, often involving 10–14 hours of trekking at altitude, including a prolonged ascent during the night. Previous high-altitude trekking experience is beneficial but not essential. However, prior experience of long mountain days and multi-day hiking is strongly recommended. A structured training programme focusing on endurance, hill walking and strength will help participants prepare for the demands of the trek. **No technical mountaineering experience is required**, although participants must be prepared for changing mountain conditions, cold temperatures and the effects of altitude. Our experienced mountain team will support participants throughout the journey, with a carefully planned itinerary designed to encourage acclimatisation. However, reaching the summit cannot be guaranteed, and safety will always take priority.
