Trip Overview Mont Buet – 3,096m | High Alpine Circular from Le Buet A spectacular and challenging high-Alpine journey taking us from the village of Le Buet to the 3,096m summit of Mont Buet, completing a demanding circular route through some of the most impressive mountain terrain in this part of the French Alps. Rather than simply climbing Mont Buet by the more conventional out-and-back route, our adventure takes an anti-clockwise circuit, creating a true Alpine mountain journey of approximately 24–25km with more than 2,200m of ascent. Starting from Le Buet, we climb away from the Vallorcine valley and into increasingly remote mountain terrain. Our route takes us across a succession of spectacular high points including Col des Corbeaux (2,602m), Le Cheval Blanc (2,831m), Col du Génévrier (2,691m) and Col des Eves (2,808m) before making the final ascent towards Mont Buet. Along the way we'll encounter a fascinating mixture of Alpine terrain, from established mountain trails and broad, glacially shaped landscapes to steep rocky ground and exposed sections where fixed ropes and metal cables assist our progress. One of the highlights comes during the final approach towards the summit ridge, where the terrain becomes considerably more adventurous. Protected sections help us negotiate the steeper and more exposed ground before we eventually emerge onto the upper mountain and make our way to the 3,096m summit of Mont Buet. After enjoying the summit and its magnificent Alpine surroundings, we begin a long and challenging descent. Rocky trails and extensive boulder-strewn terrain eventually lead us towards the Refuge de la Pierre à Bérard, where there may be an opportunity for a well-earned stop before completing the final kilometres back to Le Buet. This is much more than simply ticking off a 3,000m summit. It's a big, committing Alpine mountain day combining distance, significant ascent, altitude, exposed terrain and an outstanding high-level journey.
