The Adventure
Trip Overview
The Lake District 10 Peaks Challenge is an outstanding full-day mountain challenge taking in ten summits across some of the most dramatic terrain in the central Lake District.
Starting from Great Langdale at Dungeon Ghyll, the route climbs into the heart of the fells before linking together a succession of classic Lake District summits. Throughout the day we encounter steep ascents, rocky paths, high mountain ridges and long sections of undulating terrain, with spectacular views across the surrounding valleys and mountains.
Unlike a challenge based around a single summit, the difficulty of the 10 Peaks comes from its cumulative nature. Every descent is followed by another climb, making good pacing, nutrition and endurance increasingly important as the day progresses.
The exact combination of summits can be adapted according to conditions, but the objective remains the same: ten Lake District peaks in one continuous mountain journey.
This is a fantastic challenge for experienced walkers looking to progress beyond conventional mountain days and test themselves over a longer, more demanding route.

Fitness & Experience
Is This Adventure Right for You?
Fitness & Experience
A very good level of mountain fitness and endurance is essential for the Lake District 10 Peaks Challenge. This is a substantial mountain day involving many hours on your feet and repeated climbing and descending throughout the route.
Participants should already be comfortable completing long hillwalking days over steep, rocky and uneven terrain. Previous mountain walking experience is strongly recommended.
The challenge becomes progressively harder as fatigue builds, so appropriate training beforehand is important. Long hill days, sustained climbing and time-on-feet training are particularly useful preparation.
No specialist climbing experience is normally required, although participants need to be confident moving over rough mountain terrain and should be prepared for rapidly changing Lake District weather.
Throughout the challenge, AZOW will manage navigation, pacing, route choice and group safety, with the exact route adapted where necessary according to weather, mountain conditions and the progress of the group.
