The Adventure

Trip Overview

Experience Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) at its most spectacular with a guided sunrise ascent. Setting off under the stars, we’ll make our way towards the summit as the first light begins to appear across the mountains of Eryri. Reaching the top for sunrise offers the chance to enjoy incredible views, changing skies and a much quieter side of Wales’ highest mountain. Led by an experienced Mountain Leader, this is a memorable adventure suitable for walkers looking for something a little more special than a standard daytime ascent.

Stage 1

Your Guided Yr Wyddfa Adventure

The Itinerary 02.15am - Pre-Walk – Meet & Briefing We’ll meet at the agreed starting point approximately 3–4 hours before sunrise, with the exact meeting time confirmed before the event according to the season, chosen route and expected conditions. Your guide will conduct a short briefing covering the route, weather, equipment and plans for the morning before we switch on our headtorches and begin the ascent. 02.45am - Start Hike We’ll climb at a comfortable and sustainable pace through the darkness, allowing plenty of time for breaks and adjustments along the way. Walking by headtorch creates a completely different mountain experience, with the lights of the surrounding towns and villages gradually disappearing below us as we gain height. 5.30am Approx Sunrise – Yr Wyddfa Summit, 1,085m Our goal is to arrive near the summit shortly before sunrise. Weather permitting, we'll find a suitable position to watch the first light spread across the mountains of Eryri. There will be time for photographs, something to eat and drink, and to enjoy the experience before beginning our descent. Morning Descent We’ll descend in daylight, giving you the opportunity to properly appreciate the landscape we climbed through in darkness. Depending on the route selected, the full mountain journey will normally take approximately 6–7 hours, although timings will always be adapted to the group and conditions. For example, the Llanberis Path is approximately 14.5 km with 975m of ascent, with the National Park giving a typical walking time of around seven hours

Fitness & Experience

Is This Adventure Right for You?

A reasonable level of hill-walking fitness is required, as the ascent involves several hours of continuous walking and approximately 900 metres of ascent. You don’t need to be an experienced mountaineer, but you should be comfortable walking uphill for sustained periods and over uneven mountain terrain. No previous night-walking experience is required. The walk will be led by an experienced Mountain Leader, with the pace managed to suit the group and allow us to reach the summit safely in time for sunrise.
